The Huawei Maitree Scholarship
Programme for academic year 2013 is open for application to aid Indian students
who want to pursue higher studies in China. The scholarship amount of 5,000
dollars aims at covering the student's tuition fee and living expenses.
The transnational
educational initiative was started in
2011 by the telecommunications giant as a part of its corporate social
responsibility programme. It fosters the spirit of innovation and
scholarship in every discipline to bring about a better understanding,
appreciation and friendship between youngsters of India and China.
Under the programme, 20
scholarships are provided every year to the selected Indian students for higher
studies in credible and reputed institutions of China – preferably in emerging
areas of science and technology, culture, social studies and development
related programmes.

scholarship will help under-graduate and post-graduate students dedicate
themselves to the pursuit of excellence and be instrumental in shaping their
careers.
Apart
from the educational curriculum, the scholarship facilitates exchange of
knowledge between students from entirely different societies by providing them
with invaluable opportunity to understand and experience another culture.
The duration of scholarship
is one year which is renewable for every new academic session till the
completion of course. For renewal of scholarship, the recipient is required to
satisfy the criteria of 80 per cent marks in previous academic year.
Students should be enrolled
full-time in a degree programme. As a proof, they must provide a certificate
from the college (original copy) saying that he/she is enrolled as a full-time
student and bears a good moral character.
The student should have earned a
cumulative grade point average of 3.2 (80 per cent) or above during previous
year of study at a university. A copy of the mark sheet (attested by the
university) needs to be submitted as a proof.
The last date for submitting the documents
and applying for the scholarship is July 10. The results will be announced on
July 17.
The candidate must have
independently gained admission to a reputed university/college/institution in
China at the time of applying for the scholarship.
Candidates
should submit the application online, giving complete and accurate details
about school and university education, professional experience (if any) and a
statement of purpose. A candidate should provide references from two persons of
repute – preferably academicians and teachers.
All
applications will be reviewed by a selection panel chosen internally.
Applicants who are short-listed will face an interview. Final selection will be
based on the applicant’s successful performance in both these stages.
